It is a common practice in Kids Soccer Drills to get direction at every step, irrespective of the fact that it was asked for. You are not alone. Almost all coaches have to handle situations like these where they receive tips and tricks for free. It becomes difficult because these opinions are theirs and are not tested. It therefore gets frustrating to listen to something which is impractical.
Youth soccer drills is serious business and it is imperative that coaches take it seriously. You must apply only those tactics which have been positively tested or are result oriented. Mentioned below are some effective ways to help you convey instructions to the players.
Convey definite instruction to kids. It’s a bad idea to impart too many instructions in a single session. It hinders the kids development by confusing them with too much stuff. The kids end up feeling frustrated due to lack of understanding of the given instructions and inability to carry them out. As a coach, you have failed even before starting.
Instead, make a plan. Include a limited and clear cut lessons in it. Ensure that the instructions are simple to understand and carry out. It’s a good idea to carry out individual practice sessions in soccer drills for kids. It therefore gets simple for the kids to understand the game’s fundamentals. Also, it instills in them a sense that they are an important part of the team.
However, you must not forget that soccer being a team activity, your practice sessions must be a perfect blend of group and individual activities.
Focus on shorter training sessions in kids soccer drills. If the sessions are longer in length, there is a risk of the kids getting fed up as well as worn out. Short and simple is the key here. Preferably, keep the duration within 2 hours. During this time, include a lot of drills and fun games that sustain the interest of the kids.
When educating about soccer drills for youth, take the kids from simple to advanced concepts slowly. It is common that all boys learn in different degrees. Some learn quickly, others take time. There is no problem with it. If it requires that you divide the boys into batches to make things even, it is good enough. It will not do any good to hurry through the sessions or castigate the kids.
Know that boys play soccer because they want to enjoy it. It is the key to help them learn the game while they enjoy playing it.
In the end, make soccer activities such as controlling the ball, passing, receiving, dribbling, shooting and so on a regular part of the drills. It is nice to include several different activities in the sessions but keep soccer at the centre of everything.
